I haven’t been talking a lot about the projects I’ve been working on this summer, but I had a few super productive days last week, and the time has come to make announcements. So without further ado, here are the things I’ve been working on:
Shop Relaunch
After trimming down the offerings in my Cafepress Shop earlier this summer, I’ve been working on a series of Dinosaur Illustrations for a new line of products, both on Cafepress and at Adagio Tea. You can see some of those drawings here and here. I’m planning to finish a final set of illustrations in the next few days, and unveil the new products mid July.
Wearable Comics
Watching Project Runway last spring I became inspired by the textile manipulation I was seeing on the show, and decided that I wanted to apply my art to clothing. After some sketching and brainstorming, I’ve created a comic that I will be screen printing onto scarves. You can see a preview of that here. I won’t be able to do a test print until late July, but I am excited and believe that these have the potential to be awesome. I hope to have some available at conventions this fall, and online soon after. If the first design goes over well, there will be more to come.
Wits End
Those of you who have followed my work for a long time will remember Wits End, a film I wrote and directed with the Elm Street Players. It was a project we loved, and I’ve never forgotten how much fun it was to write those characters. Film was a limiting medium–we were confined to the sets we could build in the basement or find around town, and we didn’t have the equipment or expertise to bring the story to life the way we wanted to. Six years later, I’m working in a medium where I have more freedom and more control, better writing skills, and new ideas to bring these characters back to life. I’ve finished a draft of the script for the first issue of the comic, and am editing, rewriting, sketching and scheming. I hope to release this first issue late October.
And other Odds and Ends
Keep an eye on this blog and on tumblr, and I’ll post stuff as I finish it. Some of these projects are very small, and some of them are larger and slower, but I’ll keep you updated as they move forward.
And finally, happy Fourth of July!
