Thoughts on February

I had a great time doing sketches and posting daily the first half of February, and I hope you enjoyed the dinosaurs and the bits of sketching I’ve been doing for Wits End.  I stopped posting regularly before the last week though, and I wanted to talk a bit about that.

I did more sketches than appear on the blog.  Some of these I may share some-place, sometime, but some of them I won’t.  Towards the end of the month, I found myself being drawn to sketching out journal comics, and right now those aren’t things I want to share with the world.   Sketch-a-day February is really for me to try new things and push myself, and this time I pushed myself into work that is a little more personal and which I’ve decided to keep private.  In some ways that’s sad, because I like having new things to post and put out into the world, but I think it’s also important.  I think there’s a lot of value for me personally in doing work that isn’t intended for an audience, that is just for me to explore and experiment and work through things, that isn’t open for critique or judgement.  So much of what I do is intended for other people’s eyes, having something that is only for me is kind of freeing.

So I hope you enjoyed what I did post, and I hope to share more work with you soon.  I may continue to take suggestions for sketches, and I’m working on compiling a dinosaur mini with some of the drawings I did last month, so if you have a favorite dino that you desperately want drawn, let me know and there’s a good chance I’ll do something with that.

I hope your March is lovely, and that spring comes soon with warm days, less snow, and some green.
