Daydreams and Dying Snowmen

And that wraps up Every Snowman Dies.  I hope you enjoyed it.

Coming up, I have a blog post scheduled for Friday about driving Kansas highways.  Later this week or early next week there will be some new art up on tumblr and maybe a few new items in the shop–I’ll keep you posted on Twitter and facebook.  Then later next week I’m leaving town for a wedding, and when I get back we’ll be sprinting on to the school year!  It’s kind of terrifying.

When I am experiencing moments of terror about the future, I tend to fall back on a set of daydreams to convince myself that the future is worth looking forward to, and not necessarily something to fear.  These future scenarios are comforting if not likely, and I’m going to share my current favorites with all of you.

The longer standing dream is of taking off cross country in a Volkswagen Bus without a itinerary or plan.  I’d do art, journal, play guitar, eat at diners and explore the continental US.  In some versions of the dream, my boyfriend comes with and we run a used book shop in the back of the vehicle.  In other versions, it’s just me and a huge dog (an Irish Wolfhound or German Shepherd, depending on the day).

More recently, I’ve developed a more stationary dream.  I group together with some friends and we go into business with a bakery/coffee shop/bookstore/art gallery.   Our shop becomes the lunch hot spot, and people come in to enjoy their food and their coffee while browsing the artwork and the book selection.  My books and art, as well as those of the friends I’m in business with, are often featured, along with books we recommend, books we love, and books we’re looking forward to reading.  We invite other local artists to display and sell their work.  As the shop becomes more successful, I get to spend less keeping things running there and more time doing my creative work.

Right now these are back ups and daydreams.  The main goal is to continue writing and drawing and doing things I love, and finding a way to make a living off of it.  Toward that end, I ask that if you enjoy something I’m doing here, you share it.  Pass it on to a friend, check out the shop, or just leave a comment to let me know that something I made meant something to you.  Your encouragement and support mean more than you know.

Thanks for reading.

Allison
