Color is pretty darn cool.
I hardly ever work with color. I draw with pencils, and if I’m feeling adventurous I use charcoal or ink. Every once and awhile I’ll pull out my colored pencils or pastels, and recently I’ve been expanding my range of inks to include colored highlights, but more often than not I’m working in grey scale. Which is a pity, because solid use of color can take an image from pretty cool to absolutely mind numbingly awesome. But I don’t know. Sloppy application of color does no one any good, so until I have a better idea of what it is I want to do with color and how I want to use it I will probably leave it out.
I’ve been doing some writing the past few days. I’m playing around with a couple of story ideas, though I don’t have anything solid yet as to what I’m following Emma with. Just having fun writing. New characters keep popping into scenes, and then I get to go do sketches, which is also fun. Speaking of character sketches, the Fairy Queen has recently gained a new page of facial expressions and hair styles. She’s such an important character, I’m worried about getting her right. But at least one of these the expression is spot on for a scene I really enjoy, so that pleases me. If you’ll remind me I’ll post some of the sketches as vote incentives when we get into that scene. Or maybe I’ll remember on my own.
The current vote incentive is an early bit of concept art I did of Emma and Andy. It’s one of few drawings related to this story that I have colored, but don’t think that it’s word is law. Emma’s colors are mostly correct, but I ended up deciding to make Andy grey. You can see the coat I considered giving him by voting.
Also, new today is the Extras page, a gallery with comic related pieces of my artwork. Currently there are two images, both done in ink, which I put together sort of as Basic Telepathy posters. The originals are hanging in my room.
