I am thrilled to announce I have been hired by my university’s news paper to draw cartoons. For someone like me who loves this stuff and is interested in seriously pursuing a career in comics, this is an awesome opportunity. I started last Sunday and thus far it has made me a little bit busier but hasn’t detracted from my desire to work on Emma and other Basic Telepathy stuffs. If anything, it has further fueled my desire to work harder and make better and better comics.
The other thing I’m excited about is that I’ve been doing better at updating. February is only 2/3 of the way done and I am currently one comic away from having twice as many comic updates as December and January combined. Those were not good months for the comic. I expect (maybe hope is a better word) that things will continue to move pretty quickly for the next couple of weeks, but we are nearing the end of Emma and there are some things that are going to slow me down as we wrap up the story and I prep for the next piece.
One of these things is our next bit of news. It appears that the script for the last ten undrawn pages of Emma is on the hard drive of my computer which will no longer take power. I have a plan for retrieving this data, but I’m not sure right now whether it’s going to work or not. I have sketches for every page and brief notes about what’s getting said, but I’m missing huge chunks of the actual dialog. This may slow me down when we hit those pages.
Our final piece of news is a sad thing, which many of you may already have heard. Brian Jacques, author of the Redwall books, died a few weeks ago. I discovered these books in mid grade school and read them non stop through middle school. At one point I could tell you the plot and characters of every book and list them off both in the order of their publication and chronologically within the world. I’m late in paying my respects, but I spent a little time sketching Redwall character the other day and I thought I’d share one of those sketches now. I spent many hours in the world of Redwall. Though I haven’t read several of the more recent books, Brian Jacques gave me a world to explore and I will always have fond memories of Redwall Abby.

Oh, how sad. I didn’t know Jacques died. What a fan he had in you. And how many other O’Loughlin Elementary readers were there because of your affection for his books?
