We’ll return to media reviews sometime soon with another graphic novel and at least one television show, but today I interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you news of a few projects I’m pretty excited about.
First, let me present Break, an anthology I’ve been working on editing and producing over the past few weeks. Break contains a collection of short comics I’ve produced and tells the story of breaking up with my second boyfriend, trying to deal with him afterwards, falling in love with my best friend and finally finding my way into the relationship I’m in now. I collected poetry I wrote during and around the events of the stories, and you can find some of that within this anthology too. I don’t usually do a lot of autobio or share my poems, so this will be a rare chance to see both.
The copy pictured here is a mock up, and the final version will look a little different and even more awesome. I have a few things to fix and a couple more pages to complete, but I hope to have finished copies to share soon. I will let you know as things happen.
Next up is the project I’m currently working on for class. Staring Astrid North, agent of C.O.N.D.O.R and one of Canada’s Finest, we present The Secret of the Pharaohs. The 24 page full color comic is being produced by a team of five in the style of 1966 Super Spy comics. My work is mostly in writing, editing and ad creation. Two of my teammates did a fantastic job penciling the comic and the other two are working hard on the inking and coloring. We’ll be finished by Tuesday and I’ll be sharing it with you online soon after. You can check my tumblr for a sneak peak of one of the illustrations I’ve been working on.
Third, tomorrow is hourly comic day, and I might try it. The comics will probably be on sticky notes, but I’ll scan them and post whatever I manage to produce sometime this weekend (unless the lab where the scanners are is overwhelmed by people working on comics for class–those are more important. These can wait until that project’s over).
And lastly, it’s fitting that hourly comic day falls on February 1, as that is also the beginning of Sketch-a-Day February. I don’t promise that they’ll be beautiful, but I do promise to do my best to get new work up daily. Leave a comment or send me a message if there’s something particular you’d like to see sketched! I’ve got lots of things to draw right now, but I enjoy getting wild suggestions.
